Prayer Light: 4.30 silence

Silence is a powerful force in one’s conversation with God. There’s my silence: that place where I stop telling, interrupting, reacting, repeating, talking over God. This is no easy thing, as my friend Andrea Adams notes:

tv off, no sounds
to distract, but how will I
still this restless mind?

.

There’s God’s silence, sometimes a terrible, gnawing, empty sensation. And then there’s the comfortable quiet of familiarity. Listening. Rest. Being quiet. These require trust. “I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me” (Ps 131:2 NIV).

Today, I invite you to send no haiku, no image. “Be still and know that he is God” (Ps 46:10).
